Thread Group Establishes New Marketing Chapter in China

Google, HooRii, NXP Semiconductors and Silicon Labs Champion Chapter to Drive Thread Awareness and Adoption Across the Region

San Ramon, Calif. – June 13, 2022 The Thread Group, an industry alliance addressing IoT convergence, and challenges around security, energy footprint, and architecture at the network layer, today announced the addition of a Regional Marketing Working Group in China to educate, promote, and drive awareness and adoption of the Thread protocol across the country. HooRii Technology, along with other smart home technology innovators, including Google, NXP Semiconductors and Silicon Labs, are among the initial contributors.

“We’re excited about opening a chapter of Thread Group in China,” said Yicong Liu, CTO and Co-founder, HooRii Technology. “Smart vehicles, home devices and wearables are sparking a steady growth of IoT-enabled technologies in China. More companies are seeing the need in the region to adopt a protocol that will enable their devices to work seamlessly, and establishing a chapter in China will be instrumental in that.”

Currently approximately one quarter of Thread Group’s members are based in Asia. China specifically is ripe for adoption of the Thread protocol because it  is one of the fastest growing IoT markets in the world. According to industry research analysts at IDC, China's IoT market will top $300 billion in 2025, accounting for 26.1 percent of the total global IoT market volume. According to Qichacha, which delivers data and analytics on China-based private and public companies to consumers and enterprises, there are over 200,000 IoT relevant companies in the country, with seven percent having a registered capital greater than 30 million yuan.

The Regional Marketing Working Group in China will oversee marketing activities which promote Thread Group’s mission and vision in the region. Those marketing activities include, but are not limited to driving education through outreach, awareness, and adoption programs within China, such as webinars and training programs, industry event participation and membership development.

“Ultimately we want to make it easier for people to set up and automate technology to make their  homes and businesses more efficient,” said Vividh Siddha, President of Thread Group. "Collaboration with organizations that touch on all areas of IoT across the globe is key to making mass adoption of smart technology happen. We believe that this new chapter in China supported by some of the most progressive IoT companies in the business will underscore the need for a concerted effort amongst manufacturers to ensure smart device interoperability."
