![]() PRESIDENT'S MESSAGEWith the release of Thread 1.3.0, Matter 1.0, and the effort made to enable KNX IoT and DALI+ with Thread, 2022 represented a turning point for the IoT Industry. Thread Group was also incredibly honored and excited to be named in TIME’s Best Inventions of 2022 list which is testament to such a pivotal year of adoption and growth. These past several quarters, Thread Group worked tirelessly on finalizing the Thread 1.3.0 specification, which defined capabilities such as border routers, IPv6 connectivity, DNS-based service discovery TCP, and others. The release of Matter 1.0 is a significant milestone for the IoT industry and the opportunity to provide value to users is tremendous. I would like to recognize the work of the Technical, Marketing, and Certification committees for achieving this significant milestone. A special congratulations goes out to Jonathan Hui, Sujata Neidig, and Tom Sciorilli for leading the effort and to all the contributors who were instrumental to achieving this milestone. 2022 was also a noteworthy year as we were able to resume in-person members meetings. The spring meeting was held in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the fall meeting in Málaga, Spain. Both garnered a healthy in-person presence in addition to a few who took advantage of the virtual offering. It was wonderful to see so many new and familiar faces and we appreciate the great participation and interactive discussions that will continue to help shape the future of IoT through the development and adoption of Thread. Thread is experiencing a continuous increase in interest and demand. We now have over 130 members and are adding interesting companies from a variety of industries. Airversa, Microchip, Bosch, Gewiss, Wyze, Goliath, Adiutec, Ingenious Locks Hardware, and University of York are the newest members to join our community and we look forward to their engagement. We are extremely close to having 200 products and components supporting Thread by the end of the year! With the Matter release, the certification committee expects this number to start ramping up and we are working with CSA on making the Matter and Thread certifications as seamless as possible. Thread has also garnered new wearables use cases such as baby monitors and adult healthcare devices as presented by Connido in their keynote speech at the most recent Members Meeting in Málaga. It is truly exciting to see the use of the Thread technology in new use cases apart from IoT. I expect 2023 to be another momentous year for Thread in terms of the products, ecosystem growth, and development of successor specifications. Our next Members Meeting will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 25-27, 2023. I look forward to seeing many of you there and working collaboratively to further develop our network transport technology. Wish you all Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year! Best Regards,
Vividh Siddha |
